PBL integrates knowing and doing. Students gain knowledge and learn elements of the core curriculum, but also apply what they know to solve authentic problems and produce results that matter. PBL students take advantage of digital tools to produce high quality, collaborative products.

Project Based Learning

At Atwell Primary School we believe it is important that our learners have the opportunity to develop the skills that will enable them to be successful in their lives. These skills are identified in many different ways, but are most often called the 21st Century Skills.

Through applying a design-thinking approach to real-world problems our students develop the skills of:

  • Collaboration;

  • Self-regulation;

  • Real-world Problem Solving;

  • Skilled Communication;

  • Use of ICT; and

  • Knowledge Construction.

We teach these skills through an approach called Project Based Learning where students apply the knowledge and skills gained through the curriculum to solve problems related to the local community, Western Australia and the world. This program operates hand-in-hand with our iPad One-to-one program, enabling students to research problems, develop solutions, collaborate and present their ideas.
