Playing musical instruments is an integral part of a balanced music program. The specialised study of instrumental music further enhances students learning in many subject areas and enriches the normal classroom music program offered in government primary schools. Not all students are selected to be in the program. The SIM program is aimed at those students who show keen interest, an aptitude in music, and who are prepared to make an ongoing commitment to music activity.
At Atwell Primary School we are fortunate to be able to offer the following instruments; Clarinet, Flute, Guitar, Trumpet, Trombone and Baritone to selected students in Years 5 and 6. Students are selected for these positions at the end of Year 4. This is a two year commitment, concluding at the end of Year 6. Performances take place throughout the year at school assemblies and community festivals. Year 6 students also have the opportunity to participate in the Atwell Area Band. Parents and students can discover more information about the program at the School of Instrumental Music website or the Department of Education Instrumental Music School Services web page.
